People who confuse Beauty and Intelligence

So its alright for me to obsesse over girls?
No, liking girls is one thing; obsessing over them is another. What I was talking weren't obsessions as in OCD obsessions; what I was talking about were "restricted, stereotyped interests," a notable characteristic of Asperger's syndrome.

I dont want to date someone with AS. I want a cute, healthy girl. Well woman.

Ah, but there's a lot you don't know about NT women. Most NT women are completely unaware of what Asperger's syndrome is or how it affects our lives. They don't see the causes, only the effects. Most NT women, particularly "cute, healthy girls," place little value on aspie personality traits and skills. We are, overall, unusually honest, sometimes too unaware of the social manipulations going on around us. Many of these NT types derive great satisfaction from the games they play with people in their quest for recognition. If an aspie unwittingly joins one of these games, he or she will quickly be outed, with the psychological scars to prove it. Our in-depth expertise in our obsessions means little in the NT world--except when they come to us for help with their computers or whatever your obsession happens to be. Our academic intelligence means nothing because we're so socially awkward. The typical NeuroTypical is unable to transcend their preconceptions and discover our hidden worth.
In short, you're better off looking for a fellow aspie than an NT, especially a hypersociable one.

"Establishment think" isn't always irrational. A lot of time Asperger's syndrome makes me think irrationally; moreso than other people. I try to remember that its just my disorder talking when I irrationally become obsessed with stupid things. Usually it makes me obsessed with more productive things, but not always. Maybe other people don't get the same effect from AS, but maybe we are all irrational and thats why we think everyone else is! I think rationality is a relative term in some senses.
I think you may be confusing "rationality" with "intuition" and "common sense," Alex. NTs have much better "intuition" and "common sense" when it comes to dealing with certain things, such as interacting with eachother. Since aspies don't generally have that intuition, our rational minds become much more important to us. I, personally, have to rationalize almsot everything in order to understand it. While this may not always be the fastest way of getting to the root of things, it usually works well as a method of compensation, if you know what I mean. And there are many times when rationality is better suited to a situation than is "intuition" (ie. not letting emotions get the better of you).

Our obsessions are not wrong, bad, or irrational; they are our interests and hobbies; to us, they are fun!
I understand where Alex is coming from with this, though. Obsessions can, for me atleast, get in the way of things that I should be doing or thinking about. I can't always get what I want done because I need to read about Asperger's Syndrome or check the forums on my favorite anime (my current obsessions). It's hard for me to think about anything else at times, so when I am attempting to come up with ideas for my schoolwork (like children's books or characters) I just keep thinking of AS and Evangelion (the anime), which are not the subjects I want to illustrate, yet they just won't get out of my head or leave room for other ideas.
