A Poem- Small Talk (first draft)
Small talk is the bane of my waking hours,
judgements loaned in guise of courtesy
the thoughtfulness of strangers - unrequested
my filter's broken, please stop spamming me
Yes, I hear you, what is it you want?
will you cease to exist if I don't look at you now?
what do you gain from meeting an empty stare,
while the thread of my own ponderous thought runs out?
Darn, might as well listen now... as you talk about about the weather
It's not that I do not care at all
I care how you feel, I'd like to know you better
There's just SO many people and SO much chatter
and really the first thing I noticed was the weather
I was staring at the place where sun meets shadow
eyes unfocused, watching placidly
And every leaf was moving in the breeze
I saw them all like dreamy hazy hands
waving
waving hello to me
Perhaps you have a misconception
that I might need help finding reality
that you can bring me back to earth intact
that I might thank you for interrupting me

One eye opened slowly, green and gold as sunlight in the woods. The cat said,"I am what I am. I would tell you what you want to know if I could, for you have been kind to me. But I am a cat, and no cat anywhere ever gave anyone a straight answer."
Thank you Alexanderplatz.
