Listening to music foreign languages?

I think some people "don't see the point" in listening to music whose words they can't understand. And I think there is a stigma around it, because it's uncommon enough to be weird. Don't forget, being different is wrong.

English is almost a Lingua Franca for music (I know a vast amount of music isn't in English, but you don't get many native English speakers singing in Afrikaans, Inuktitut, or Japanese).

I haven't revealed the extent of my listenings to anyone, really. I've recently been really digging Faun (mostly German, but other languages too). I've got a few songs in my library in (Irish) Gaelic, a bit of Breton, some of whatever Raghu Dixit claim to be (Indian Reggae?). I have a few songs in French, but I don't find myself liking many of the songs I hear sung in French. I've been exposed to music sung in Arabic, but don't own any.

I do think that for whatever reason (social or biological), it's natural to have a bias against something you can't understand.

The Spanish Song 'Eres Tu' from Spain got into the top ten favorites in the U.S. in 1973.

The Beatles did a German Language version of their song, 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand.' The German version offered new perspectives on an otherwise heavily played (English version) of the song.

Regardless, foreign language music can be treated on the same merits as one's native language music!
