I've been neglecting "world" music lately. I used to be heavily into both Indian classical music and Klezmer. Other tips from back then: the Tuvan band Yat Kha, a rock band with traditional Tuvan throat-singing and folk-songs. Gamalan music, played on these tremendous bronze percussion orchestras from Indonesia. Cesaria Evora, grand diva of Morna music from Cape Verde, which is a bit like Fado songs but more danceable.
Since then, not much, though I heard the Malian kora player Balake Sissoko live recently and was blown away by him. (The kora is a kind of harp, though it really doesn't look like one.) There's a compilation of traditional Madagascan music I've listened to a lot: amazing interlocking textures of lute- and zither-type instruments.
