I read in Discover Magazine that Tolstoy was wrong, and that the opposite has been found to be closer to the truth: that happy families find happiness in diverse ways, while unhappy families are more like each other.
But be that as it may, you want us to apply Anna Karenina principle to astronomy?
There is a logic to applying AK principle to finding life on other planets. Other planets fail at being "happy" ( if by happy you mean able to support life) for differing reasons. Some planets are too hot, and some are too cold, for example.
or happy families are happy or find happiness or consolation in different a/o creative ways and unhappy families are unhappy in different ways and happiness and unhappiness can be objective a/o subjective and .. idk .
