Any fans here? I've never really followed many youtubers except him, he's very funny and I love hearing about some of the bizarre games and tech from the 80s and 90s.

My favorite episode is about a game from the early 2000s though; big rigs over the road racing, check it out here if you're interested :)

Aye, big fan here, always have been.

My own favorite episode was the one about Action 52.

I love the channel. I'm not old enough to have been playing games back when some of the stuff he covers was around, but I've played a fair bit of the more well known stuff he's covered. It's also interesting to hear his opinions on games you've thought back on with rose tinted glasses - a lot of things about old games are really stupid but don't get scrutinised much.

Sweet, I love AVGN. Too many favorite episodes to list, but Action 52, both Bugs Bunny episodes, Atari Porn, and the CD-I are among that list. I especially like how he called a certain game publisher Laughin' Jokin' Numbnuts.

I know he has a special needs daughter... but I still do wish he would post more often. If it wasn't for Mike that channel would be dead in the algorithm

I liked the older AVGN videos. There was an awareness there that these were dumb videos about an average dumbass getting angry about video game BS in the time when widespread internet access was new and this sort of thing was novel. The more recent videos have been embarrassing to watch, honestly. It's like James has lost his connection to the character he's trying to portray, since he's not a 20y/o angry gamer nerd anymore, so he's writing some sort of approximation that doesn't really hit the appeal that the original AVGN had and just feels forced, and it isn't really unique now that Youtube and Twitch are popular and filled with as*holes.

This doesnt really make sense to me, considering how he's using literally the same concepts and even acting style that he used way back when. Nothing has changed, except maybe some of the viewers. But why fix what isnt broken?

Though, the other bit is, the age thing doesnt matter. It aint just gamers in their 20s that can act a bit like that. I've seen gamers in their 40s do it. That's a big part of why his content continues to resonate with everyone. Gamers of any age really do act like that sometimes (more often than they really should) and the idea of this total retro guy doing it appeals alot to those that like older games. As opposed to the typical screaming Youtubers/Twitch guys, who just pick a current popular game and wail at it. Often, they all pick the SAME game.

In other words, James isnt trying to appeal to a specific age group: He's trying to appeal to a specific INTEREST group. AKA, retro fans.

But also, James himself is more of an actor and has a genuine interest in film and such. There's a BIG difference between the style in which he makes and acts out his Nerd videos (and the effort put into them), and some Youtuber going "WHOA OMG" at random intervals in the corner of the screen because the 36992367th jumpscare just happened. Not that the Youtubers doing that cant be funny, but still.

At this point, considering how Konami acts and the stupid crap they pull, they may be the new LJN now. Yeah, EA and Activision are bad, but they're a more straightforward sort of evil. Konami is a more face-palm sort of nasty.

One of my absolute favorite Nerd moments though was when he found that one Spiderman game on the SNES, and it turns out to be an LJN game that doesnt suck and is actually kinda good. "THEY DID IT! THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!" It was like finding the holy grail or something.
