As a way to grow my social skills, I always talk to repairmen while they're at our house. Never about anything too personal, just their jobs, what they're working on, etc. They're always willing to talk and they kinda have to be friendly. In my experience, I also learn a lot from them in terms of DIY repairs but also product recommendations.

I recommend doing this to get used to verbal expression, and having back and forth conversation. Additionally, it can help you work on eye contact.

A repairman just left and I feel very proud of myself for keeping conversation with him, and as a majorly added bonus he was very handsome. Since he made a lot of eye contact, it made me feel better about flat out staring at him the whole time.

When I was listing my former house for sale and preparing to move, the realtor recommended a handyman to come and take care of several minor things that needed to be done. I had him come to see to those items and we always had a conversation going it seemed. I liked both him and the quality of his work so after I moved I had him come and work on several things at my new house too. We have become pretty good friends since last summer. I think he is "Aspie and don't know it" is why we have gotten on so well.

The maintenance people who come to our apartment tend to be in a rush & do sh!tty work. They also tend to have attitudes so I find it better not to talk to them much & just leave em to there work.

I've had this experience too, when we lived in a townhouse. I feel like there's a big difference in the quality of work when you go through insurance. Right now we have our own house so repairs are scheduled through a home warranty company.

But when we were in our townhouse (it was like a rented three floor apartment though that might not make much sense), the repairmen there were not nice and just wanted to get their work over with asap. They always seemed like they had a personal grudge against us. So I guess it could go either way.
