Anyway, an extreme example of my original point was when a female shipmate walked up to me, turned her back toward me, and then announced "I'm ignoring you". I shrugged and went back to work. "Hey! I said I was ignoring you!" Again, shrug/work. This type of thing went on for a few days. Why? I never did ask for an explanation.

LOL ... she was hitting on you. Not very effectively, but still.

Ooookaaaayyyyy ...

I'm glad I dodged that bullet. She married one of the other enlisteds (just before he transferred to shore duty), and was later caught sleeping nude in the bed of one of the junior commissioned officers while he was standing watch on the bridge.

To administration: please lock this thread!

Why do you think you get a say in whether somebody else's thread is locked? You're not a moderator, and unless you can point to specifically what rule was broken, you're best off staying away from threads you simply dislike.

Anybody has a say in what threads get locked. Not a final decision, but a say.

Who made you the boss of everybody else in the forum, anyway? You're not a moderator, and unless you can point to specifically what rule was broken, don't order other people around.

Plus, you are still using that annoying firebrick color after I told you it is hard to read. So pfft.

I never claimed to have any authority, and unlike the person I was responding to, I'm not looking to exercise control over what can and can't be posted.
"You'd be best off" is an opinion.

I have principled opposition to threads that don't violate the rules being locked against the OP's will, and as such I don't think it's appropriate to ask for such a thing to happen.

And I was actually using
this colour until you mentioned it was hard to read, and with the first colour, I agreed you might have a point, but I see nothing wrong with this colour, and frankly I don't care if one person happens to have an issue with it. If I get a bunch of people telling me that this colour is difficult to read, then maybe I'll change it, but your opinion on its own is of too little significance for me to care enough to change it.

It's both, but depends on the culture. If you are in the US it is color.

The correct spelling is colour , any other spelling is just ignorance and superiority complex :P

Quote:
The word color has its roots (unsurprisingly) in the Latin word color. It entered Middle English through the Anglo-Norman colur, which was a version of the Old French colour. The current difference in spelling between the American and British variants is credited to (or occasionally blamed on) Noah Webster, the American lexicographer. Seeking to establish American independence and identity in language, Webster implemented a number of spelling reforms in A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language, which he published in 1806.

I think announcing the "I'm ignoring you" thing is about trying to get a reaction (control).
It's manipulative, because it doesn't involve direct communication, yet the user of this tactic usually has a certain goal in mind. Consciously or subconsciously.
Manipulative doesn't necessarily imply malintent though, although it may.

For example, the best friend of my ex used it in order to "punish" me because I didn't act as she wanted me to. Yes, she was narcissistic, she thought she was smarter than anyone else from a place of condescension and wanted to tell others how to act all the time, according to her rules, so I'm sure she thought it would hurt me on top of changing my behavior.

But other people might do it because they have reasons to not be direct about what they want. It's not that they try to hurt, rather they don't know how else to do it or perhaps are afraid of being direct for some reason.
For example, if that woman was indeed flirting with you Fnord, then one plausible explanation could be that she was trying to indirectly gauge your interest in her, without being as susceptible to direct rejection and public humiliation.

(* = my personal opinion, not researched)

Only had one person do that in recent memory.

A guy on WP.

He posted an article from wiki in response to something I posted. But didn't provide any commentary o f his own. He was too much of spineless wimp to take responsibility for his opinion. And just hoped against hope that Wikipedia would do the talking for him.

And Wiki DID do that. But Wiki didnt say what he wanted it to say. It just reiterated the very point I had made in my post.

So asked him if that meant he was agreeing with me.

He replied that "if you think I am agreeing with you then you're dreaming".

So I asked why- if he disagreed with me - why did he post something that supported and repeated the very thing I said.

True to his character -instead of sticking up for himself- he just replied that "I'm through with you!".

"Through" with me with out even having started with me in the first place! Oh well!

A few months later he announced that he couldn't handle WP, and was leaving. Judging from my last conversation with him he probably couldn't ANY social venue, online, or offline!

I think it's possible to have angry arguments with members here and not even know you are. So many people seem unable to decipher tone in the written word ( especially Aspie written word ) - I've done it myself.
