Medical Marijuana and Aspergers
First off, sorry if this is in the wrong place, being “medical” marijuana it made logical sense to me to put it in Health.
Has anyone here used or currently use marijuana with Aspergers?
Has it helped you? If so in what ways has it helped?
If it has not helped you what did it do that adversely affected you?
I ask because I was told it had the potential to help, but that’s way to obscure of a statement for me to try something so foreign to me. I am somewhat curious about trying to be honest just nervous.
I do. It helps a lot.
It smooths out my emotions, and makes it easier to regulate them.
It reduces my sensitivity to stimuli like lights sounds and smells.
It reduces my anxiety.
It improves my mood and helps with my depression.
It helps me sleep.
It settles down my OCD, and makes me more able to deal with change.
It slows down my ADHD, and helps me be less manic and scatter-brained.
It settles down my tics from my tourette.
I used to use it medically - though I still smoke some recreationally from time to time.
I have a damaged shoulder that has caused me a good deal of pain over the years, to the point of barely being able to use my arm. Since none of my doctors would prescribe me proper pain medication, I decided to go "criminal".
Medical marijuana is technically legal where I live, but faces a lot of resistance in the medical community - plus it's only fully legal to use it in refined products - as in pills... though a "raw" product trial is ongoing.
In any case, it had the desired effect - reducing my shoulder pains enough to make it at least tolerable and make me able to work a job.
Other positive side effects included:
- Making my mind STFU once in a while.
- Helps me sleep
- Improves my mood
- Reminds me to eat (used to be very skinny because I often forgot to eat)
- Removes my anxiety
When I used it medically - I did it for about a month at a time before taking a "T-break" (tolerance break) for about a week. This wasn't only to save money on the "medicine" by getting my tolerance down - but also to stave off psychosis, which can happen after long-term uninterrupted use.
Some other negative effects:
- Initially you might have very vivid dreams at night, after a while, you might experience that you barely dream at all
- Some people may experience heightened sensitivity, especially to sound, taste and smell.
- Some people become paranoid (usually depends on the breed of cannabis - sativa dominant strains can be rather psychoactive... for AS-related problems, i'd recommend indica-dominant strains which have a more relaxing effect)
- Some people may get psychosis or other mental problems from long-term usage.
Breed and method of ingestion does, however, deliver a variation in the effect. Here's a few additional tips:
- The breed matters. Sativa-dominant strains are more "uppity" and can keep you alert, but reduce anxiety - while indica-dominant strains are known for their relaxing effects and "couchlock".
- Be wary with edibles. They take a while to kick in, up to a few hours in fact. Edibles can be hard to manage and dose. I've had a few times where a cookie kicked me in the face like a mule when I wasn't ready for it.
- Don't smoke from a bong - while it is the most efficient way of ingestion, it also destroys your lungs long-term. Much more so than cigarettes.
- If you're not used to smoking, but want to keep it manageable - go for vaping. Leftover weed (ABV - Already Been Vaped) can be recycled for making edibles...
It does have the potential to help with AS-related and many other problems. If used with respect, cannabis is one of the safest drugs out there.
have tolerance from times past ,, very successful experience with edibles several years ago and wass first time had ever tried them.. not a user ,, but not a non user.. just wish to stay within state lrgal parameters or gov parametrs/ did everything previous poster had written of
