Does dried fruit have added sugar on usually, or no?

I like dried fruit, however, a lot of times when I've tried it, it seems like it has added sugar on, especially since it looks like it, just by looking. I asked at the stores, and they said that the sugar is not added, and that when you dry the fruit, the sugar is more apparent, cause all the water is dried out. But is that true, or do they actually add more sugar?

fruit is already sweet and sugary, not sure who would want to add more.

but that's a good question

It depends on the fruit. There are some fruits like dried cranberries and dried sour cherries that are almost always sugar infused to sweeten them.

Fried figs don't have sugar added to them, but the natural sugars come to the surface and look like they've been dusted in powdered sugar.

Most dried fruit doesn't have added sugar. The package should tell you though.

Sometimes sugar is used to help preserve dried fruit. This was popular years ago and is popular today; it keeps bacteria from getting involved or something and generally does a nice job. Of course dried fruit that has been sugared is going to be sweet, but if you are only cutting up a little bit of it to put in oatmeal or something then it's O.K. Most of the time (back in the 1900s) it was not eaten as a snack but as part of something else, and that makes good sense.

Dried fruit typically has extra sugar or fructose.

Oh okay thanks. Well where I live it's mostly sold in bulk, so it doesn't say on the bulk containers if there is added sugar or not. But it tastes like there is more sugar. Is there any companies that sell it without any added sugar?

Trader Joe's [you can find 'em on Amazon] sells no-sugar-added dried fruits.

Oh okay thanks. I guess instead of ordering online though, I can just get a dehydrator and dry my own fruit?
