If you run for example for 3 hours how many miles would that be?

Way too many miles for me :( .

A typical speed for that kind of distance would be 9 min/mile, 180 min / 9 = 20 miles.

Depends on your pace. We mostly use kilometres in my country and in 3 hours at 6 min/km that would be 30 km (18.6 mi). Faster runners with a pace of 5 min/km can cover 36 km (22.4 mi) and really fast fit runners of 4 min/km would cover 45 km. (28 mi). A relaxed pace of 7 min/km would enable you to cover about 26 km or 16 mi.

As envirozentinel said it depends entirely on how fast you are going!

As a general rule the further you go at maximal exertion the slower it will be on average.
For example my PB over 5Km is sub 4 min 30 seconds per KM, whereas my marathon PB is about 5 min 20 seconds per Km.
These are also personal best times, most of my running is done between 5min and 7min per Km when I'm out doing everyday jogs.

Regular runners do most of their running somewhat slower than "flat out" and only bust out the "race pace" for about 10% of their milage.
