So, I’ve plateaued, and I’m 20 pounds heavier than I’d like to be. I can’t talk to my friends/family about it in person because chances are most of the people in the room are bigger than I am, and 20 pounds over my ideal weight, which is lower than my maximum healthy weight, is not enough that weight loss is a big issue.

I had to lower my calorie goal lower than what I’ve ever eaten because of the pandemic and the cold combined—this winter I’ll be less active than ever even if I try. 1,400 calories—woohoo! Sarcasm.

It will be a learning curve—trying to stick to my calorie goal right away without learning to stick to it healthfully and with the right nutrient, being as conscious about animal products as I’d like to be, etc. will not go well. I know that even fruit can put you off track at that low of a calorie allowance, you may have to work out a ton just to have enough extra calories for one treat, and getting the minimum amount of protein* may be something to be mindful of.

*Here come the “you don’t need a lot of protein” comments, but I’m talking about the minimum healthy amount, which is already not that much. Even that can be hard on 1,400 calories.

Tofu is low-calorie and full of protein. If you still have problems, there are protein shakes.

I've been able to get a sufficient amount of protein on a 1,000 calorie diet while lifting weights regularly. It's not difficult unless you are a pro bodybuilder or have very little variety in your diet. Maybe there is some specific medical condition that might make it more difficult.

And honestly I don't see why temporarily getting less than minimum protein would be much of a problem unless the diet drags on for a long time. Your body can handle insufficient caloric intake temporarily, so why not temporary insufficient protein intake?
