My family has the custom of getting stressed out on special occasions and bickering. I don't like that.

We have the tradition of weekend dinners where everyone is encouraged to say what they think, and share things they have learnt or find interesting, and there are no taboos. That I like very much.

My stepdad does that fighting on special occasions thing too...

He needs to learn to only do it on his birthday. That is the one day of the year he can ruin. Cos it's his day...

He also does a thing where the first person to remember the day of the month pinches and punches the other person and says: 'pinch, punch, first day of the month, no returns back'. But only between me and him and when he was growing up only between him and his brothers.

That 'first day of the month' tradition made me chuckle. My family does a silly thing at the New Year where we see who can be first to make a corny joke about not having talked to each other since 'last year'.

Another family tradition is that everyone learns to swim very young. My nephew swam for the first time when he was 8 months, before even walking.

I just remembered our Christmas fairy lol...

The youngest from each generation (cos their personalities are into this kind of thing) pass around presents as the Christmas fairy.

When my cousin was a child, she did it on her own cos it was cute. Same apparently when mum was little. Now they're both adults and both do it.

Men in my family must remain obese for as long as possible because it is considered "masculine."

That is something I don't want to carry on even though I am about 20-40 LBS overweight.

For my dad's family, it's definitely the Christmas Eve party hosted at some random shed one of uncles owns and it's always a bit cold and depressing there and I never go any more because I'd rather not deal with it. I also always get ignored whenever I go and the only person who acknowledges me is my dad so I feel like I'm not really wanted there anyways.

For my mom's family, I'd just say eating roast beef on Christmas night because I don't really like it but it's not a big deal.

I don't know any tradition or custom done exclusively by my family...

Best: Might be; honoring certain house roles, or involving various resort/beach outings...
Or whenever cake and fried goodness is mostly involved.

Worst: Anything boring and then while involving karaoke all day and night.
Nighttimes, so far had lead to loud drunks and occasionally further nasty stuff. And I mean nasty stuff, I meant likely involving bodily harm and blood.

Again. Likely not family exclusive.

My family doesn't really have any traditions or customs. We used to do holiday things like giving gifts on Christmas & visiting my grandparents for a big meal on Christmas, Thanksgiving, & Easter but we kind of quit doing that. I'm an only child & not really into holiday stuff much. Plus my extended family is a lot bigger than it used to be. My aunts & uncles are grandparents & they are busy with their own families. My parents kinda like not being too involved with their own families now. My parents prefer to do their own stuff instead. My parents would like to do stuff with me & my girlfriend but I moved across the country when I moved in with my girlfriend & traveling is a hassle for us & my parents.

My family has a tradition that if someone is sick and has to go to the hospital, when they get home they are allowed to pick whatever they want to order for dinner as a treat.
