• New member's reply involves the words "only joking".
Now the new member knows (1) how far the boundaries can be pushed, and (2) what triggers the other member.
Then the real trollery begins.So it's like recon for future actions with built-in plausible deniability?
I'd agree that some of this time this seems to be the case, but there's plenty of people who act like this so consistently that it's part of what they're known for, in which case it doesn't seem to accomplish that goal unless it's always intentional and they're always planning to do it more with practically everyone.
