I don't ever watch sports except for racing, so buzzers never intrude on my experience.

I don't usually either, but as a kid I was taken to basketball games and the scoreboard buzzer would always make me jump.
How long ago was that? You might not have the same experience anymore.
I know when I saw a rock concert as a small child it was overwhelming and distressing. When I went to see big acts as a teenager it was enjoyable but still a bit draining; when I've gone to see smaller acts or local shows in my teens and since it's always been really fun. That said, if I had of seen the sorts of acts that I enjoy seeing now it would have immediately overwhelmed me as an 8 year old (hardcore and metal vs. the moderate rock band we saw).
Do you like basketball? Would you choose to go watch a game? If so there's a good change you won't be as startled by the buzzer now because you're more likely to be prepared to deal with it since you chose it (compared to when you were taken as a kid). You'll also be more invested in the enjoyable aspects of the experience so the distressing ones might be less noticable.
