It should be "you and me baby are nothing but mammals".

Two negatives make a positive. "You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals" means they are more than just mammals.

Oh its the grammar, not the crassness, that you object to.

According to some pedants that is true. That a double negative equals a positive (as in math). But thats only in certain dialects of English.

Other languages work the opposite way. You have to balance a negative with a negative.

So in Spanish you would say "No tengo nada" to mean "I dont have anything" even though it's literally "I no have nothing".

i wonder why there are no triple negatives [at least outside of genuine exclamations of horror]?

Poor people can't afford to go on dates, so they like to get real cozy right away.

Three negatives make a negative. "I don't never have no spare change." is at least logical, if not considered grammatically correct.

What does it mean when somebody uses so many negatives in one sentence that you cant keep track :?:

In Spanish it is just being consistent. The same in nonstandard dialects of English. In standard English it's just being silly because you would have to count the negatives and divide by two to see if they are an odd number (making the statement negative), or even (making it positive).

I thought that's how it wold work in standard English but counting more than a couple of negatives is tiring so my rule of thumb is to consider it negative when more than a couple of negatives are used. BTW it usually is not that difficult to tell if a number is an odd or even amount without having to divide it by two
