Yesterday I had a bad day with my sinuses. I got an itch in the left side of my nose and it wouldn't go away no matter what I did, and it kept causing a persistant urge to sneeze, constant runny nose, streaming eyes, and post-nasal drip (which caused stomachache and nausea). You may say that this sounds like an allergy but I think it's a bit more than an allergy, as it went on for hours, including all night at work, and I work outside and I don't often get any allergies at work.
I must have sneezed about 50 times throughout the night but it didn't clear my sinuses. It was also causing irregular breathing, because I kept nearly sneezing but couldn't. It was such a horrible discomfort, that I couldn't concentrate on my work properly and I had to keep going to the bathroom to get more tissue. It was nothing but clear, watery discharge.

I took an antihistamine but it didn't get rid of the itch, then I took a sudafed but that didn't get rid of it either. When I got home I breathed in steam but that didn't help either. I don't think anything will help.
But my boss thought I was overreacting but I wasn't. I felt embarrassed because people might think I have COVID. But I've had this all before with my sinuses so I know that it's not a cold or flu or COVID. But I still feel embarrassed about it.

I would phone the doctors, but I know they'll just assume it is COVID and make me get a test. But believe me, it is not COVID. I still have my taste and smell, I don't have a temperature and I don't feel unwell at all. When I do have a virus that affects my nose I always feel feverish or unwell, but with this I don't. It's just a nagging itch in the same part of my nose, and it worsens if I move. If I just sit still, it dries up and the itching eases.

What could this be? I can't find much information about it on Google.

Does sound like an allergy.

Don't be fooled into thinking all allergic reactions are mild.

That's definitely not the case!

Maybe you have a dry patch of skin or something on the inside of your nose that's making it itch? You could get a doctor to look at the inside of your nose and see if you have some sort of skin issue. I can't imagine why else it'd be in a very specific spot.

I think it is that. I wore a face mask the next day at work to see if my nose would feel less dry, and it worked. The mask kept moisture in and around my nose. I'm glad I can wear a mask now, because the last time this happened was before COVID and so the wearing of a mask in public was unheard of.

Anyway, athough my nose was constantly streaming like a tap, it still felt dry in that one specific spot (a bit like when you get dry itchy eyes but they're really watery).

It hasn't itched since and my nose has been pretty clear. But I actually produced more mucus from my nose in the course of 5 hours than you would with the common cold. That's how bad it was.

Usually when I get allergies it can be treated, like getting fresh air or taking antihistamine pills (which I did). But it didn't work. Once I get this dry irritation in my nose, nothing will stop it, and it can last several hours and be very disruptive. Blowing my nose, inhaling steam and sneezing didn't relieve it.

Now I'm left with a very sore nose where I've wiped it with tissues so much.

sounds like either a short cold or an allergy.
Sinusitis usually lasts for longer

Some things online say you can get saline spray to try to use in your nose, though it's interesting that steam doesn't help because it also suggested that. I don't know how gross this would feel, but some things also say you can try to put some sort of water-based lubricant on the inside of your nose, too, if that doesn't work.

Imagine if you and Felix Unger shared the same apartment?

(it's only a joke, please don't take this seriously).

Felix Unger was a character on the TV show "Odd Couple." He had sinus problems, and would honk like a goose whenever his sinuses acted up

I wouldn't have taken offense. Although I have never heard of Odd Couple, I still find the joke funny.

(See, I do have a sense of humour).
