I think it provides a few minutes of entertainment for some people.
That movie provided lots of people including me with a lot more than a few minutes of entertainment

The movie, starring Bill Murray, is absolutely a classic. :D

Groundhog Day takes place at the mid-point of the winter season. There will always be six more weeks of winter after Groundhog Day, concluding on the spring Equinox.

I've never understood people who say spring will come faster or slower? It begins on the same date every year.

They mean spring weather will come sooner. It get warm earlier. No more snow.

You can approach the question two ways.

Ask how accurate a particular ground hog has been(Puxentawney Phil is the most famous, but there are others, like Buckeye Chuck, General Beauregard Lee, etc.).

Or you can just skip that and just ask "how often does a cloudy day on Groundhog Day actually coincide with an early spring vs a clear day coinciding with a long winter? That because it all pivots on the rodent seeing his shadow, or not.

This Feb 2nd the local groundhog couldn't have seen his shadow because it was too cloudy and rainy for anyone to see theirs. It's supposed to mean spring will come early, but it's been unusually mild this winter with hardly any snow. I've been worried because global warming but my mother said it was just the January Thaw (last month when it was still January), and we have had warmer winters in the past, but I don't know.

All I know is that usually we're lucky if *all* we get is six more weeks of winter whether that groundhog sees his shadow or not.

Build-a-Bear has a stuffed toy groundhog for Groundhog's day. Which is pretty unusual, you don't normally see anything for Groundhog's Day but there's tons of stuff out for Valentine's, St. Patty and Easter! But it would make a unique addition to my BAB collection. :)

We're supposed to be getting a snowstorm on Monday, so I guess Nature wants to remind us that it *is* winter.
