Have heard the phrase 'act your age and not your shoe size'? That phrase always annoyed me- Id love to get away with acting like a 4 and a half year-old! Im probably about 12-13 inside- which is apparently how old I look.

Mentally, I suspect I reached full maturity in my mid twenties, and so didn't need to self-improve much after that. I never made a transition from child to adult as such, which NT's seem to do, but then, I never had any interest in following "role models" of any kind, preffering to make my own decisions, according to my own observations and analysis.

What's the big deal about "growing up" anyway? It always amused me when other pupils wanted to be refered to as "students" when moving to the sixth form, as I couldn't see the point! Right now, I've just turned fifty, going on twenty five, and that suits me just fine.

I think I'm about 10 or 11 maturity wise... maybe younger even. I know a lot of words though!

There is a "big deal" about growing up, but perhaps not what you would expect. Adults want us to be like them. They want us to adopt their beliefs, their values and their work ethic. So they will say things like, "You should act More Your Age" or "Grow up and Face Reality," or "You have to Come To Terms with the Real World." It's psychological attack: they are attempting to replace what you are, with what they want you to be, to make you into an adult.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Adults have lots of great qualities, and the fact I can't be like them yet sometimes hurts me a lot in life. But it is unquestionably brainwashing, just for a different cause than say converting you to Communism. Anyone referring to being "grown up" as different from being a child has fallen for this ruse; it's not really that different, although there are some differences. Coming-of-age ceremonies have been used since the dawn of civilisation to prevent children from being different from their parents, and preserve the status quo.
