Simple question, did you ever learn to ice skate or roller skate (quads or inline)?

I can skate on inlines and on ice skates but I've never tried quads. I'm not very skilled though, I can plow stop but I never learned a proper hockey stop. I can skate backwards though, which is pretty handy if you want to play goal.

Only if it has handlebars to hold onto and looks like a bicycle.

When my father was posted as British consul in Zurich he took my brother, sister and I to a skating rink. He got annoyed because I couldn't balance on the balance on the blades.

It can be really hard at first. I had to use a frame to learn, but after a few hours I didn't need it. Hockey was a special interest as a kid so not learning wasn't going to be an acceptable outcome to me.

I've also absentmindedly stepped on to ice with the blade protectors still on... which doesn't work so well.

Yes, my Dad used to take us ice skating when we were kids. He taught me how to skate backwards. I haven't been ice skating in over 10 years though, so I don't know if I would be any good now. Might be a fun thing to do whilst I'm off work. Good idea.

When I was a kid, I learned to skate the hard way, on Prince Pond, walkable distance. Put on the skates and go out there. I never got very good, but I loved it. I remember a shed with benches for changing into skates or shoes. I remember it was very, very cold. Midwest winter.

In Florida, I started inline skates in Everglades City. Small place, no traffic. Skated out to Plantation Island and back. I turned to skates because I developed joint problems and couldn't run anymore. I could go forward and backward, stop. I watched the winter olympics once and watched the speed skaters and how they matched their arm swings to their stride, one hand behind their backs. That was great fun, but I didn't have the stamina to do it for very long.

No sidewalks were I live now. No roads. Just woods and swamp.

Skating was fun. Thanks for the memories.

Skating while short-sighted would be an absolute nightmare for me.

Both, but not inline skates. But I haven’t in years, so no idea what would happen if I tried either now.

I haven't done it in ages either. I don't think I own a pair currently.
