At least one major composer, Beethoven, was deaf in the later part of his life. I have heard at least one blind artist, but he was not a painter, but a sculptor.

it was some kind of nutritional deficiency. he could hear if the sound was loud enough, but the catch was that the hearing would come suddenly only in the presence of deafening volume levels, which made him noise-averse.
