You remember when Star Wars was just called Star Wars.

The only air conditioning for the car was rolling down the window.

Dialing a long phone number would take about five minutes because of the rotary dial.

Lawn darts was a perfectly acceptable summer activity, usually played when the adults had a few drinks and you and other kids were running around.

Cigarettes had filters put on them so they were "safe".

You remember much of your early childhood being in a second hand smoke filled haze.

A flat screen was one of those things put on windows to keep the bugs from coming in.

MTV actually had music videos (or Much Music if you live in Canada)

You wore your hair in either a side pony tail or a mullet.

You once had clothing that was either neon or pastel colored.

You remember when tattered and faded jeans were no longer seen as something only poor, low-life people only wore.

You had a collection of Alf or Garbage pail kid cards.

Getting a scratch and sniff sticker from your teacher for doing well on a test what the greatest thing ever.

You actually got up early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons until noon.

You owned a game console that had a special switch for black and white TV.

Calling something "lame" wasn't ableist.

Neither was calling someone the R word, unfortunately.

Those ads for Sea Monkeys in comic books were one of your first lessons in life about how if something looks too good to be true, it is.

You've watched sitcoms where the kids were the hippies while the parents were the squares, and then when you got older you watched sitcoms where the parents were the hippies while the kids were the squares.

You wandered all over creation without any adult supervision.

Your parents ordered you to go outside in the summer and not come back in until the street lights came on, which led to you wandering all over creation unsupervised.

You're really sick of hearing about boomers and millennials all the time.

People act like your generation never existed.

And then they say you know someone is gen x because they'll tell you.

You can't help but feel amused that kids that think anything from the 20th century is uncool are going around playing with toys based off of Star Wars, My Little Pony, and Transformers.

You Know You're a Gen X-er When...

…You claim items for your generation that were originally attributed to Boomers.

On Christmas day there were many boxes under the tree with toys, most of them with a sci-fi military theme.
As opposed to just getting a phone or iTunes credit.
