Baron Cohen, Autism Quotient (AQ) Scan For Autism; Albeit Not A Specific Diagnostic Tool;

True, The Kind of Intelligence i Lacked With my Stellar Mechanical Systemizing Intelligence Was
That of "Social Empathic, Imaginary And Creative Intelligences," Better Related to William Blake And "To see a World
in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour."

The problem with this IQ test (and many other online tests) is that it only measures a specific part of your intelligence. Most online IQ tests measure your perceptual reasoning score which is your ability to recognize patterns along with your spatial awareness ability. If you have a high score in this aspect of intelligence, then great, but it doesn't paint the whole picture like an official intelligence test does.

However, an official IQ test such as the WAIS measures different types of intelligences. For example, the four sub-tests in the WAIS test includes perceptual reasoning, verbal comprehension, working memory, and processing speed. Your scores on these sub-tests are then averaged out to get your full-scale IQ.

Perceptual Reasoning measures your ability to think spatially and also your ability to identify patterns. Most online IQ tests focuses on this aspect of intelligence.

Verbal Comprehension is your ability to understand and reason using words.

Working Memory measures your auditory and short term memory. Most online IQ tests DON'T test for working memory, even though it's on the WAIS which is an official IQ test. How they test your working memory is they give you random numbers, which you must then repeat back. Then they give you random numbers, and not only do you have to remember the numbers, but you also have to say which number is the highest and the lowest.

Processing Speed is designed to measure how quickly one can complete simple, timed cognitive tasks using pencil and paper.

I got 172 and it called me Albert Einstein.

I agree with aghogday, I can feel my ego being massaged. If I was unusually smart I'd have noticed.

I don't really know what's being measured with these sorts of tests. My ability to spot patterns and extrapolate? Is that all IQ is?

Amazing.
I consider that test not thorough enough.
School tested me gifted in Grade 3.
Only my parent thought my aspergers was "social problems."
Now aspie life with nts has beaten me down to 80 ?
And I program in proprietary languages most others cannot.
They wanted to boot me up to Grade 5 to "give me a challenge."
So I am now an 80 ?
Undiagnosed asperger life is destructive.

Wrongplanet.net is now calling itself autistic !
Man, your clinical knowledge of the differences between ASs and HFAs is sorely deficient, as well as the uniqueness of AS.
AS is a singular diagnosis ignored out of existence for gross inconvenience and the almighty buck.

My real score is just 141... I used to score higher on these 10 years or so back... Getting dumber with age, and I know that for a fact.

I've always wanted to know if people are allowed to use a pencil for maths questions on online IQ tests?

I always assumed that it's supposed to be mental math without pencils, paper, etc.

Just curious.

Why not use pencils, etc? What they test is how fast you come up with the correct answers. They don’t care how you got the answer.

I don't know.
I just assumed it was supposed to be mental, like what you "know" in your head.
Of course you could also know things with a pencil, though.

In my case I've always been quick with mental calculations.
It didn't occur to me to try a pencil.
I'm sure that would help sometimes, especially since my strokes.

I did the one in the first post during lunch and got 179. :D I do know that I'm smart, but probably not that smart. My real IQ is probably closer to 145 - 150. They asked for my age and gender and language. Maybe I got some bonus for being an old woman whose first language isn't English? :D
