Alex Grey is pretty open about his past use of psychedelic drugs. He speaks about it when discussing his work and how particular trips influenced some of his art. I don't know if he does it anymore or even advocates it but it definitely was a component of his visionary experiences in the past.

Anyway I see no problem with it - used responsibly, and with art this brilliant he should do whatever works for him.

im probably in the minority here, but i dont really like his artwork. theres too much going on, i guess im more of an impressionist artist fan :)

Yeah I don't like it either.

I like him and HR giger. They are both awesome, but I would not put them up on my walls. They are not very relaxing to look at. Also, you can tell that Alex Grey thinks that using psychedelic drugs is good for you, which I disagree with.

I like H.R. Giger too, and I agree neither of it is very relaxing, but then I wouldn't look at Artwork to relax myself, I'd look at it to appreciate it.

You don't know that, I mean you can't simply say that just looking at his Artwork, just because it's "Trippy" looking. For example in Japan the bands that play Psychedelic Rock were actually against Drug use, which is directly opposed to the Psychedelic Rock bands in America which used it to make their music.

Interesting. What are some Japanese psychedelic bands you know of?

Well there's Acid Mothers Temple and pretty much any other band bearing an extension of that name, the Jacks, Takehisa Kosugi, Live I. If it had been Goth or Punk I could help you but Japanese music isn't really my department.

Try this:

and Last.fm if you find any artists you like, it will help you fin similar artists.
