Bose or Sony?

I want wireless, noise-canceling headphones that can pick up subtleties in classical music. A strong bass is not necessary for my purposes.

You can't go too far wrong with Sennheiser:

Studio monitor headphones would probably be suitable, they don't have any sort of bass emphasis because of their intended purpose. They're intended to reproduce details accurately.

I'm only going to mention models that meet your criteria of wireless, noise-canceling, can pick up subtleties in classical music, strong bass is not necessary.

Wireless Monitors With Noise Cancelling:
PreSonus Eris HD10BT Bluetooth Headphones with Active Noise Canceling
AKG K371BT
Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT2
Shure AONIC 50
Mackie MC-60BT

Not monitors, but gets good reviews:
Sony WH-1000XM4

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I know Bose and Sony both tend to have pretty pricey stuff. If the Sony ones I mentioned are within budget, any of the monitors I've suggested should be under budget. The Bose QuietComfort® 45 cost more than anything I've recommended.

I've owned Shure monitors before and they sounded great. Not quite as flat as the Samsons they replaced but they worked better for general listening.

The brand I've had the best experiences with is Samson, but they discontinued their noise-cancelling models and don't make wireless models.

^ Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll look into them.

I tried Bose ones out in a store and really liked their noise-canceling ability, but they were quite expensive, and I’m not sure about the sound. I could spend that much, though.

I ended up buying the Sony WH-1000XM4s. I like them a lot.

What is your range like?
I have a different brand (cheap lol) and I like them but I can't go in some rooms of the house without losing signal.

It’s great. They work all over the house. My cheap pair did too, but the sound quality wasn’t as good.

Is your house multi-level?
Mine cuts out if I go up or down two floors, but not if I just go around.

It depends on which feature is most important, sound quality, wireless range, or noise cancelling. I vote Bose for sound quality, but Sony or Senheiser for noise-cancellation As noise-cancelling was my biggest priority.

When I tried them out in the store, I thought the noise cancellation was better on the Bose but the sound quality was better on the Sony.

It probably just comes down to personal preference, I suppose.

I don't really care about the NC aspect and in fact I can't even tell if my NC is switched on or not.
Either way I mostly hear my tinnitus.

I wanted mine so I could walk around the house cleaning without having to drag my laptop everywhere.
I guess that means range should have been top of my list, but I didn't even think of that.

Sound quality was also important but I'm mostly listening to YouTubers talk so that doesn't matter.
I love loud punk / rock on them but can only do a little at a time without getting dizzy.

I have both the Sony WH-1000XM4 and the Bose QC45. I love them both. I think the Sony has better sound cancellation while the Bose is more comfortable.
