Is anyone else nostalgic for cable and satellite TV?

We only have cable for watching sports, but I don't think it's even needed for that is it?

I rarely even watch streamed stuff.

I think it depends on who has broadcast rights. CBC and other networks carry some major sports, but a lot more is only available on specialty channels.

Say like, out-of-market sportsball games - often the local network affiliate carries whatever games are local and if you want to watch out-of-market games you need a specialty channel who pays for those broadcast rights.

Not really.  Reception was always spotty, and customer support was practically non-existent.

I feel nostalgia for broadcast TV, however.  At least when reception was bad, it was a combination of distance from the transmitter, lousy antenna, lousy transmission line (cheap 75-Ohm coax or cheaper 300-Ohm twin-lead), and a lousy television receiver (usually a second-hand off-brand).

Programs were entertaining, and mostly without gratuitous explosions, profanity, sexual situations, or violence.

And dangit!  I miss watching 1960's Saturday-morning cartoons in my jammies on the living room floor while eating bowl after bowl of "Frosted Sugar Bombs" (or whatever mom had bought the night before).

Although, I do like the aesthetics of VHS tape. I dub VHS noise quitely into the background of music I make, I don't like how dead silences sound and I don't mind having a bit of a lo-fi vibe.

I still have cable TV but I miss the variety you used to get on it. A lot of channels nowadays basically just air one program all day long, probably because of the popularity of binge watching on streaming services.

When I was a kid growing up in the 2000s, there were tons of shows I discovered just because I found something that looked interesting when channel flipping (I had basic cable growing up, so none of that fancy stuff like having 500+ channels with a browsable program guide or whatever. I had to either channel flip or use the TV Guide channel to see what was on) and then another show that ended up catching my attention aired after it or whatever. Pretty sure that's how I discovered MASH as a kid.
