I've nearly always done the most important things, though the timing has often been too close for comfort.
Sometimes it's hard for me to know whether I want to do a thing or not, or maybe there are different kinds of wanting - sometimes I want to do things that for some reason I can't bring myself to do. So on one level, I always want to do the things I feel I should do, but either something stops me (such as impaired memory, fear, or a hard-wired tendency towards procrastination), or on some other level I don't want to do them. I suspect the English language has a flaw or two in it that tends to give apparent paradoxes when it's used to express these matters. "Wanting" may be a flawed term.
