Once in a while...I take on the role of "the adult in the room" with other adults.

Or I 'get' what person A is saying that person B doesnt get, and act as the "translator" between the two.

But its not a constant thing that happens all of the time.

Come to think of it, I sometimes play the "translator" role too. It's like many people don't actually listen to and try to understand the words others are saying. Instead they latch onto a couple of words and reply to what they thought they heard. Whereas I'm well aware that most people's thought processes are alien to me, so I'm paying more attention.

I am the one who points out the awkward truth and what's behind the façade of most people. What they are really like underneath.

Because of that, few people like me. They say 'you're so blunt and to the point. Why can't you be tactful?'

Oh please! I am being tactful, you idiots. If I let loose and said what I really thought, you'd all dissolve.

My experience is that although I am the voice of reason, no one listens to me. :)

I think most people have that hubris one way or another.

Autistics possibly have it more or seem to have it more because

1. We do think differently than most
2. We are less likely to have a 'filter" that prevents us from saying what we are thinking.
