I used to be scared of lighting matches but now I think it looks pretty and I could stare for ages.

I would never touch a match I remember someone giving me one when I was 6 or 7 and it burnt two of my fingers.
I prefer using a gas gun when I use my gas stove so much safer.

I hate the feeling of striking a paper match. It seems too much like nails on a chalk board.

Thanks for all the replies :D

I believe the match I used was a paper one. I probably would have an easier time with a wooden type, or those stick lighters. In general if it's longer and less flimsy..the less hesitant I'd likely be to give it a go.

I don't mind lighting a match and holding it for a few seconds, but after that I keep thinking it will burn down to my fingers, then I yelp and drop the match on myself or the floor and catch everywhere alight.

Since autistic people are known for having unusual fears and anxieties, it very well could have something to do with AS.

They are? I didn't know that and have some strange fears.

I don't like plugging things into outlets. I'm ok doing it outside my own home or if I use the same outlet and plug very frequently. Sometimes when I plug things in I see or hear a spark and I don't like plugs that make noise.

I don't want to light the stove with a match.

I keep my mirrors facing the wall behind the door. I don't like seeing reflections in things unless I'm looking in a mirror on purpose. This bothers me more at night or if I'm home alone.

I'm scared of spiderwebs, mostly of touching them.

I've just discovered that my daughter has inherited my weird fear of mirrors, at night especially - she had no idea that was why my wardrobe had it's mirror replaced with hardboard. I've always made a conscious effort to not allow any fears to show in her presence, as I don't want her to be affected just by copying me. Last night, we put up a curtain rail over her mirrored wardrobe, so that she can have the mirror for daytime (she's not scared during the day), but it's covered when she wants to sleep. She got to sleep much quicker last night than she has done in a very long time.

Personally, I never trusted or liked lighting matches.
I was okay with others lighting it, seeing the light and smelling it but I never wanted to do it.

Today, I made my first breakfast by myself, I'd not say completely by myself because after several times of getting yelled at to light the match, the person js had to light it themself.

I'm never really trusted in kithens for that same reason, whenever I'm near a litten match fire I get scared and panicky and everything js goes wrong.
"I don't want to drop it but I don't want to be close to it", "what if I accidentally light the box or something including myself on fire", "if it falls on the floor what am I going to do", "drop the match don't drop the match drop the match don't".

Even the sight of seeing the light appear on the match gives me a little scare

Nope, but I'm also fine extinguishing candles with my fingers by just quickly pinching the wick.

TBH, this seems like a much more sensible thing to be afraid of than me being afraid to be seen without shoes on without being at the beach or a pool.

A long time ago I instantly fell in love with a "girl" as I witnessed her light a paper match with one hand, without removing it from the pack. Boss lady lol

I have pyromania. I was only talking about this with my therapist last week. It's about control (again, seems to be a running theme with me).

I don't have a problem with lighting matches now, but when I was a kid I was very scared of it. When I was 10 years old, I went to a Catholic school where every day a candle would be lit in front of a statuette of Mary. Each day a student was picked by the teacher to light the candle, and it was an honor and everyone yearned to be chosen. When I was chosen to light the candle, I didn't know what to do. I took the matches from the teacher and went and stood in front of the statuette and then I just burst into tears.

Matches don't bother me very much.

Trying to.light gas burners ( like on a kitchen stove) though scares me.
