That song has a very soothing effect on me.

This is a pretty known fact about Enya but putting it out here anyway: she spoke only Irish until well into her childhood. Her stage name is a rough anglicisation of her Irish birth name. Most Irish L1 speakers have an English name they use in English contexts, for example a man known as Pádraig Ó Briain to his Irish-speaking community would be known as Patrick O'Brien in English. Enya didn't AFAIK. That's how monolingual her family was. It's a shame there are very few predominant Irish speakers left, it's a beautiful language.

Yes, I first heard it on the South Park episode Death, although at the time I thought it was a Blondie song for some reason.

They're different songs. The one Cartman sang was a classic rock song by the band Styx. The song the OP posted sounds kinda like a celtic folk song. Interesting side-note, Cartman sings the Styx song on the South Park CD Chef Aid but he didn't sing it in that ep. Chef Aid has lots of great artists on it :wtg:

When I first heard it, it reminded me of something from around 1959, similar to the theme song from "A Summer Place."

Cartman didn't sing it in Death (Season 1). I'm talking about when Grandpa plays a song on a tape and Stan hates it.

Dad was into World Music and that tape was definitely part of my toddler-hoods' soundtrack; I doubt I could recall any other song from that album.
