as I drive down this old eastern byway, sun soon setting in the horizon, I look around at the arching trees that seemingly burn like on fire all around me, I hear they are called the burning tree , the leaves in the fall turn brilliant red. It reminds me of back home where the local volcano spews now and then and you get to see some real burning tree's, and the ground glows as well with rivers of hot lava running just beneath the surface, except the ground does not tremble as much here, but pretty none the less.
ah the sun sets just at last, now the interesting begins, you see not long ago these scientists altered these tree's DNA to glow like a firefly's when the leaves start changing color, some tree's do not glow as much as others but the effects are fantastic, and you can only see it at night, they used only inedible plants and tree's I hear, good for them, ah look, see it? it was an glowing owl up in a tree, eating the glowing mice down below, Ill bet his hunting got much better! nice fat owl in a tree.
ah the tree's, like waterfalls of leaping flames as the leaves dances in the cool breeze.
I remember the first time I seen a glowing owl, it spooked me a moment thinking it was a ghost of an owl! then I reasoned out what had happened too it.
what makes this a fantastic site to see, is all the interesting diversity in life and the food chain you see all around you that you never noteist before during the day, even the small insects and worms come out to play.
(sigh) here comes the end of the road, I had to pay to come in to the park and see some of sciences better blunders,
no stopping or camping allowed in the forest except by researchers it seems, makes me stop and wonder at it all, its not like I cant go down to the corner market and buys some glowing flower plants for my mate and kids when I want, guess I had better turn my head lights on now, it will be a long drive home.

Nicely written post! :D

Though I wasn't sure if it was fact or fiction... It almost sounded like you were looking at a radioactively mutated wildlife preserve. Is this supposed to be some kind of ironic look at what a nice drive through the woods would look like in a dystopian future?

No, have you not seen the articles on when some scientist placed an firefly's DNA that made it glow into an tobacco plant and made it glow? someday soon I am sure they will make house plants that glow and other plants as well. this is OLD news, so I am sure it wont be too much longer now befor we see it.

Ah, cool. Afraid I haven't been following news very much lately, other than occassionally listening in on the Katrina story. Got any pictures of the glowing tobacco plant?

I suppose that means its just a matter of time until someone creates some genetically altered glowing marijuana.
"Dude, its like the bong is glowing with inner spiritual energy... When we inhale, we inhale the very essence of the universe's being! Faaaaaaaaaar out man!"
