When I was a PhD student, during my last term I contracted into a catered hall for my dinners. Once when I sat down a group of students near me were getting extra glasses of water and acting strange. I gently asked them "is something about to happen ?" They said "yes".
I picked up my tray and walked to the other end of the room, a moment later they started throwing food everywhere. I felt the whole thing was a pointless waste of food in a world where there are people who are unable to get sufficent food for a healthy life.
The kitchen supervisor came out and told them to clean up their mess, they ran off saying something rude. I then saw a cleaner come out and I felt very sorry for the cleaner. Why should the cleaner have to clean up up after a bunch of yobs who have worse table manners than preschool children ?
I later discovered that the students who had their food fight were billed for the cleaner's time, in those days if you had a outstanding debt to the university they would not allow you to graduate.
