1. Stop buying things.
2. Get rid of things you don't need.
3. Find a place for the things you do need and keep everything in its place.

You need more going out of the house than is coming in.

I found that I needed more places to put thing like making the most of storage I already had and also buying more shelving or boxes to store things.

Also, make a habit of sorting through areas which tend to get cluttered. Make time for this regularly. Have it in your schedule.

The first step is making a start once you have a plan.

I've accepted that I'm just always going to create clutter, personally. That doesn't mean don't clean up or take preventative measures, but also be gentle with myself.

It usually helps to start small or do big tasks in small steps.
You may want to clean a small area and keep it clean.
You may want to throw out just a few things every week.
Put stuff in a box to give away to a Savers or Goodwill.

If it's stuff, then it is a matter of being more mindful about what you own and where it's stored.

If it's cluttered speech, that is harder, as it requires knowing precisely what you want to say and how you want to say it. Which is to say, is rather challenging for many of us.

Permanent - get executive functioning skills or actually able to access it in long term.
Get rid of everything and keep bare minimum, and just maintain not buying any more than allowed.
Having tight level of discipline and long term planning over whatever fleeting projects and ideas in mind.

Semi-permanent - being mindful where to put your things, not multitasking, practicing a habit of refusing to buy more.
Being gentle overall. Taking one step at a time. Clean up again every week or so.

Not - get a sections of clutters instead. Be it an area, a box or a bag full of 'do clean/clear/put into place laters'.
One just only need to know if it's frequently used and what it is for. Just look for the box/bag/whatever that says 'I brought this just in case yet I never used it again after using it once' before accidentally buying one again.

Step 1 is don't let it get any worse. It's a matter of not bringing new stuff into your home unless you know how and where you're going to store it.

Containers can be very useful for reducing clutter, if you can find any that will fit the contents. Cardboard boxes are often free but they fall apart in time. Plastic's better but you have to pay for it. Shelves are good too, but open shelves are prone to getting dusty. Collections of small items are best kept in sealed containers because it's often hard to dust tons of small items. Much easier to clean the outside of a box than to clean 100 toy soldiers one by one.

Personally I can't be bothered to do a lot of tidying, so I limit it to certain parts of the house that I use a lot. The rest of the house is rooms full of clutter that I don't go in very often, so it rarely troubles me that they're untidy.

Another useful tip I heard is to look at the "architecture" of storage spaces and try to make them easier to access. A lot of untidiness is caused when it's physically awkward to access the storage spaces where you're supposed to be keeping things.

I'm assuming you mean cluttering as in speech?
I do it too and the only way for me not to do it is to script and mask heavily.
I've basically accepted the cluttering now. It's just the way I speak.

Ohh, I hadn't considered that's what OP meant.

I tend to have mildly cluttered speech. I've had issues trying to make videos on tiktok cuz of it, and of course the middle school trolls have made fun of that.
