another "bullycide" of an autistic woman, at work
This is really tragic...this poor woman...R.I.P.
A former employee of the City of Montreal, the Botanical Gardens, killed herself due to merciless bullying which was ostensibly due to her being on the autism spectrum. To complicate matters, her father was in palliative care and when she told her co-workers, they were dismissive and told her to "quit whining"
When I read about sh*t like this, it REALLY makes me wonder who's got the empathy problem...I would never even THINK about reacting like this to another human, regardless of their neurology, or skin colour, or anything else!!
The article below explains the gist of it, but there are other details not stated in this one that are stated elsewhere. Like, when a colleague "accidentally" bumped into her with a barrow that was really intentional (and this was one of the reasons I refused to play organized sports back in the day, for fear that someone would "accidentally" throw a ball at my head - and I'm not being paranoid), and all sorts of passive-aggressive crap. It's obvious that they were trying to constructively dismiss her.

It also mentions that some Black and Arab employees were subject to ongoing abuse. That also really pisses me off.
It's as if some environments still want to maintain a form of National Socialism for normies. Where they only support and stand up for their own kind. I can only hope that increased press of these incidents prompts a call for change, but sadly, the circumstances aren't in our favour. Just consider factors like these:
- the abuse is subject to plausible deniability, e.g. "accidentally" hitting someone with an object, or veiled insults that were misinterpreted due to that person's "mental disorder" or other convenience excuses;
- the witnesses won't speak out or speak up b/c they're likely to be ostracized along with the Aspie;
- if the victim records the footage of abuse to use against the aggressor, it may be swept under the rug when given to authorities, i.e. in this case the City of Montreal. Because many organizations don't want a lawsuit.
That was so cold of them to treat her like that.
When I was 21, I was bullied by two roommates who were incredibly cold. Though I will admit that I made bad choices, they mishandled it. For example, I got laid off and didn't have any money to pay the bills. One of my roommates got very nasty. "Then what are you doing here? You can't pull this kind of stuff, I mean you're too irresponsible to be on your own. If you do stay here, then I would suggest not using our phones or watching our TV because you can't pay for them." Then she ratted me out to the landlord.
However, things didn't stop there
- Some family members ostracized me
- I was misunderstood by a toxic college instructor
- I had trouble holding onto several jobs
- The leaders at my church were not supportive and didn't help
- I applied for a position as a house keeper in an adult foster care house. Well, I made the mistake of disclosing my diagnosis only for her to try and get me qualified. Otherwise she didn't care if I would end up on the streets
I think the 'culture' for want of a better word, is to blame in many places i.e. in some places it is the norm to bully others, in some places it isn't.
I have worked in countless jobs, countless organisations and some were supportive, wonderful, helpful, but some were full of bullies, jostling for position on their precious hierarchies.
Often when one or two people leave, the culture changes and it turns out they were the ringleaders.
Not that I'm excusing any of this behaviour WHATSOEVER. But I think it's a kind of 'pack of predators' type of behaviour. Because of course, humans are the top predators on the planet, remember.

Was she living on her own or in some sort of custodial care?
From the photos I can see she was attractive and probably seemed younger than her actual age. I'll bet slut shaming was involved. Probably wasn't able to effectively communicate with her family about it, or take the initiative to complain to the trade union.
It's possible men at her job were using her for sex, then intimidating her not to talk.
Yes, never underestimate the b|tchy, pack behaviour of a group of women when they see one who is more attractive than them but somehow unable to fight back because she isn't a b|tch.

yeah I have a feeling there's more going on here than the article suggests, I don't think anyone actually gets bullied just for "being autistic" but it's an easy enough excuse to cover up the real reason for the bullying.... sad, I really hope her family sues

I agree. Some organisations let any sort of behaviour pass without intervening. I've seen this, been there, experienced it. No one knew I was autistic, even myself back then! But I was 'the weirdo', 'not part of the gang' and therefore the culture was to bully me
In one place I worked in, the other workers were all posh, public* schoolgirls whose Daddies paid for everything. I was just a 'commoner' who didn't know all the social etiquette of the posh girls, so I was the odd one out and therefore the victim.
(*public school in Britain is the expensive, posh schooling that the upper classes take part in)
