Don't you hate it when you try to advocate for yourself, but just end up getting shut down? Why do you think that happens?

Yeah, I don't like it.

I think it happens for a variety of reasons. It depends on the situation and context. I'm very shy in person and have trouble explaining things due to social anxiety. Those are probably my main issues.

Sometimes people advocate for stuff that's just not available for whatever reason or that they don't qualify for.

I actually got therapy/ coaching on healthy self assertive communication. It helped me stand up for myself and taught me how to set boundaries and how to say NO effectively. I learned how to spot being gaslighted, manipulated, intimidated, etc and how to keep it from happening by simple assertive techniques. If I could learn it, anybody can.
