Some guy called from an Alberta phone number blah blah royal properties something something - so you're a realtor frm Alberta looking for a listing ? We're a nation wide company Sir blah blah.. we are not asking you to commit to anything we are just calling to inform you of what your home is worth.. Lol buddy I can see the for sale signs up the block and Know what homes here are worth I don't need you to call from 1500 kms away to tell me. You're calling every phone number in the country looking for listings, yeah ? Him "Ya." Me: It's not for sale, we're staying, take me off your list. *click*

These people are relentless.. I mean, good on them for being persistent but holy sweet baby jebuz F there's at Least 3-4 calls/week from realtors offices. I mean, I get the math.. it costs them minimum wage + a dialing machine to phone everyone possible and if someone says yes they were just thinking of listing and selling and they decide to do business with them those a-holes are cashing a pretty big almost entirely unearned commission cheque on the sale of a $1.8x Million dollar property.. but still.. f right off - take us off your call lists & never call again unless you want complaints about your annoying marketing tactics to whoever we can file them with. Just tired of it - BUT - I'll answer just to tell them to take me off their damn call lists.

Another thing to know about humans with dialers is that if you don't answer them enough your number falls down the list in priority, so when they sell you on (and on) you number goes further and further down. Where as if you answer on the first or second ring they know they have a "live one" only too eager to be bothered.

When you ask to be taken off their list, they will (or at least they are supposed to), but they will always sell you to someone else before they do its still a minor win for them.

I don't know how common it is, but I find that telemarketers usually pause before talking into the phone.
Wheras most friends that call usually talk as soon as you answer

I screen all of my calls anyway, if they don't leave a voicemail or text afterwords its probably not important.

Hard to know who’s calling before you answer the phone, though. Could be a relative or could be work/business related etc.

I’ve started answering my cell phone a lot more often lately just so I can tell a bunch of charities to take me off their call lists.

Yes, that happens.. but if I don’t stay on the line until a human is there I can’t tell them to take me off their call list.

I haven’t checked voicemail for 3 years or so. If it’s important they’ll text or call back.
