Back in the days of moveable type (printing presses), p and q were easy to mistake for each other because they're the same but mirrored. Mind your ps and qs as a saying stems from that context.

When I got tested, I got advised to get only a few hours sleep the night before the test.

The rationale being that when testing while sleep deprived, the person testing can really get to know how much the condition affects me on a bad day.

As opposed to a good day when I am able to act relatively normal.

The benefits of doing such things is that they will be better able to advise what supports you may need to cope with the condition.

Good luck!

If you pass your ADHD test you get a masters degree which allows you to diagnose & treat paitents who have ADHD. Very unfortunately you cant prescribe your own meds thou :(

Is that right? I always thought it meant pay attention to detail. Same idea, I guess.

Yes.

Its like the bar exam.

If you pass it then you get the license to be ...hyperactive, and to no longer pay attention...in whatever state you live in. :D

But out of state you still have to be sedate, and mind your Ps and Qs..
what dos p and q mean

I was just making a joke.
An "ADHD test" is like a diabetes test for like blood sugar. Its not like a drivers ed test, but you talk about it like it is like a driver's ed test.

"Minding your ps and qs" is a common expression here in the U.S. to mean "pay attention to details".

The expression probably originated from print shops. Printers have to compose text in lead type before placing it in the press. And that requires proofreading the type ...which requires reading letters both upside down and backwards (so it can it be printed rightside up and forward). When upside down and backwards ps and qs are an especially easy pair to confuse.

I got diagnosed with ADHD in kindergarten at the same time I got diagnosed with dyslexia. I've taken tests a few times since so I could keep receiving accommodations in school & my dyslexia diagnoses stuck thou my ADHD diagnoses got changed to ADD. I think my ADD might really be Sluggish Cognitive Tempo thou because I've always been slow at processing various things. I feel like my brain is a moped bike & most everyone else's is a sports car. I get to the destination eventually but everyone else is long gone by then :( I'm not sure how ADHD would get tested without it being related to school accommodations.
