why do i laugh when someone insults me

Got into trouble in the past as when I get angrily shouted at, I can sometimes smile but don't know I was smiling? Makes people even more angry.

Other times I have been in trouble when I automatically give a little laugh when someone has had a lucky escape and this has also been taken in the wrong way by some.

Oh yeah, I do this too. If someone comes at me angrily shouting I smile or laugh at them, completely instinctive. It's like I can't believe it's real, so I laugh. It's not a good way to deescalate a situation.
