I noticed that after the Wastelands RP thread, no-one seemed willing to give any new RP threads a go. The rather quick failure of my espionage RP "QuickSILVER" seems to suggest to me that RP threads are not liked anymore, especially by certain naysayers like jrknothead.

Thus, I am putting up this poll for people's opinions.

I believe they are dead. At least during the school months. I think that people don't have time for RP's so not many potential people don't sign up for one. I think that RP's get a lot more people in when people were not in school.

I agree with yvaN_ehT_nioJ; the time now devoted to school will take away some of the players. There are some other factors involved, probably. It's difficult to join when everyone does it on different schedules; I had that problem with The House, as everyone else was on when I was sleeping. Coordinating time can be a problem. There's also the problem of interest; if the RP is over some specific topic, you're automatically going to lose some people who don't have a base knowledge of it. Then when someone drops out, there's going to be a space that can be problematic to fill. I'm sure there other detractors as well; that's all I can think of at the moment. I don't think they're dead however; I'm sure there are still those who would like to join. Now just may not be the time for it.

In any case, if people don't like RPs, they don't have to join; there's really no point in protesting the thread (I saw some of the posts in a different starting RP; not in "QuickSILVER" but the one before it).

Yes. This part of WP has been very quiet recently anyway. I suspect that there simply aren't enough members visiting here. =/

I find it hard to believe that people wouldn't want to do roleplaying merely due to school responsibilities...

Well, at least that's the way it is for me. If I didn't have school I would be participating in a few of these RP's. Of course there are going to be more reasons. They might just not like RP's, have to take care of family, doing something else, the list goes on and on.

People have their obsessions, school, and whatnot. People can't always devote themselves to being involved in an RP story.

That's a major issue for me. I work during the day, so I want to RP to relax. If I have to educate myself about a bunch of topics with which I'm not familiar in order to participate, it's going to be too time consuming.

Also, I put a lot of effort into my character for The Wastelands and I was unhappy with how the RP was abandoned so quickly. I understand that people are busy. A slow pace wouldn't have been a problem for me, but people bailed out rather than playing as they were able or trying to build up participation. I'm very reluctant to put the same amount of effort into anything new now, unless I see evidence that the new RP isn't likely to go the same way.

Having a newcomer to RP's (i.e, me, probably wasn't great either [The Wastelands was my first RP experience])

Perhaps if people posted less on RP's then people that had to be away wouldn't be lost and unable to add to the RP.
