My family came up from Houston to visit me in Wichita Falls this weekend. We went across the state line to Oklahoma, because my family wanted to see the Wichita Mountains, just north of Lawton. We climbed to the top of Mt. Scott, which is 2,500 feet above sea level. Although these are very small mountains by mountain standards, the drive/hike up the mountain was exhilirating.
The nearest major mountain range to me is the Ozarks, along the Arkansas/Missouri state line.

Grats on your first hike! There is another place pretty close to you called Dinosaur Valley State Park that has some cool day hikes. I was there in January and really enjoyed it. Should be very nice this time of year now that the weather is finally starting to cool off.
So the Ozarks are closer to WF than Big Bend?
