I went hiking for the first time...

...and I LOVED it!

My family came up from Houston to visit me in Wichita Falls this weekend. We went across the state line to Oklahoma, because my family wanted to see the Wichita Mountains, just north of Lawton. We climbed to the top of Mt. Scott, which is 2,500 feet above sea level. Although these are very small mountains by mountain standards, the drive/hike up the mountain was exhilirating.

The nearest major mountain range to me is the Ozarks, along the Arkansas/Missouri state line.

Did you stop and eat a longhorn burger?
Can't remember the name of the place, but there is this small burger joint north of lawton near a preserve, that makes great burgers!
There's also a small town with an old hotel that had a bakery which made THE BEST homemade rolls.

Heh, im jealous!! I had a small hike tonight with a buddy of mine, and came back by dark, but id love to check out a mountain outside the adirondack park area, maby soon enough...

Ill be climbing a mountain in about 2 more weeks, and i cant wait.

Grats on your first hike! There is another place pretty close to you called Dinosaur Valley State Park that has some cool day hikes. I was there in January and really enjoyed it. Should be very nice this time of year now that the weather is finally starting to cool off.

So the Ozarks are closer to WF than Big Bend?

Sounds good.

I get to do some hiking from time to time on my own. It's a great way to get away from the human world for a bit and just be alone with my thoughts. That and I always find things to be fascinated by in the woods.

We didn't eat in Lawton. No one was hungry at that time (it was around 2:00pm). We waited until we got back to Wichita Falls to eat dinner.

Interesting, I would have thought the Chisos in Big Bend or the Guadalupes would have been closer. I also had no idea there were mountains in Oklahoma. Along the I-35 corridor it's pretty flat and desolate.
