Looking for work in a new state

My roommate was recently offered a job in fort Collins, CO. She offered for me to move with her. I'd like to go, but I need to find a job immediately.

Problem is, I've always struggled to find employment to the point that I'm traumatized by the thought of looking for a new job. I currently work as a teacher, but this past school year has burnt me out so badly I can't do it again. So I don't know what to do.

Honestly I would not move to Fort Collins but thats just me.I dont think you should risk being homeless if you dont have the money to cover rent in Colorado because of no job.Oklahoma has a much lower cost of living than Colorado.

Rent prices in Oklahoma are rising and I won't be able to afford rent here either without a roommate. So I'm screwed either way.

Maybe look into some private tutoring gigs so you're working with one or a small group of children versus an entire class?

I've thought about that, but I don't know how it works.

A while back, I taught online with DadaABC. There were only 3 hours per day I could work, and if I was fully booked I made $1000 per month before taxes. After a while, I lost most of my regulars and did not get any new students to replace them. This kept happening gradually until I just couldn't sustain it anymore. At any rate, it never was enough to live off as a primary income anyway.

I can only speak for myself here, but I would find this much easier to cope with.
One private student who is motivated to learn or a classroom of 30 unruly kids to deal with.
As a school teacher you'd probably spend more time putting out proverbial fires than actually teaching.

I love to teach what I know and are very patient with anyone who actually wants to learn.
I can't image being a school teacher, the noise and chaos would be all too much for me.

How do I find that kind of job?

Fort Collins is expensive, but there are lots of jobs...and if you're both working it is doable. You could take a look at indeed for the area to get an idea of jobs available.

My problem is that this is all happening on a short notice and I have no guarantee of getting a job right away.

There have been many times in the past when I could not get a job despite there being no reason why I shouldn't be able to in theory. Employment discrimination against autistic people is common and well-documented, and I have personally experienced it many times. I couldn't even get hired at a Wal-Mart or McDonald's.

Well, you could try those again may be a bit different in Colorado, but there are also like less seeked out jobs that they are less picky about who they hire as they need the help. Like my first job here was working at a veterinary research facility to help take care of the animals. It's harder work than I thought though so I got a bit burnt out and had to find a different job, but at least it provided me something to start with.

There is also an Arc thrift store and they certainly employ people that may otherwise struggle to get a job. Also, I just applied for a laundry job at a hotel...and in the application process it mentioned they make a point to hire some disabled people, so you could look into those kind of jobs. I also see a lot of adds for like house-cleaning work and such though you usually need your own vehicle for those and not sure what your vehicle situation is.

But yeah, I don't want you to miss out on an opportunity to move to Colorado, but I also don't want to say it's super easy. But if you apply to like every job you could do...then you should be able to find at least something pretty quick you just have to take what you can get initially, then look for something better while you already have a job.

Also though has the room-mate secured any housing...or do they plan to move up and then look around? And is it like a high paying job they got offered? Because on other option would be getting a place in Loveland and commuting to fort collins(seems the housing in Loveland may be a bit cheaper so me and my boyfriend are actually planning to move there when our lease is up)...but would be 20 to 40 minute commute depending on the housing and where their job is in Fort Collins. But then you could look for jobs in both Fort Collins and Loveland
