autisticelders, yes, I've had the "aha" moments. In fact, I've had a lot of them and that was a little overwhelming. But it has calmed down and everything is better as far as that goes. Thank you for all the material I can look into to learn about autism!

I have to make sure my insurance covers testing, so I don't know right now if i can go, but I'll find out.

I hadn't known that specialists can see through masking; I'm glad they can. That's a relief to hear! I am 99% sure I have autism, so I hope I will find out definite answers! Thank you for your reply!

I was wondering if it's possible to mask your symptoms of autism so well that you don't realize what they really are even though you know "something" is wrong. And, I think it's common to mask so much that you don't know who you are anymore. But, based on my first comment, how would you know what to tell a dr that tests for autism exactly what's going on with you? Do they pick things apart so it's easier to treat and recognize the symptoms yourself?
Yes, masking can definitely do that. When talking to a doctor, just be honest about your life. If you are being properly tested for an Autism diagnosis, it will show up. If the doctor is not knowledgeable or if the doctor is ignorant or an idiot, s/he might completely miss the Autism so it's really important to find a doctor who has a clue and a brain.

Hi, skibum. I had written a reply to you but I don't know where it went. Thank you for your advice. I hope I'm lucky to find a really good specialist the first time. If not, I'll keep looking!
