Learning you're autistic is a lot of self re-evaluation and redefining yourself. I was diagnosed a year ago, and I'm still figuring out my feelings on the matter.

I was actually quite happy being diagnosed, initially. And it was still one of the best decisions I ever made! But... now. I also am coming to hate being autistic. Because no one in my life gets that I'm actually f*****g disabled, even if I may not look like it. Life is legitimately harder than it would otherwise be, because of my autism. I cannot work many jobs without damaging my physical and mental health, and no one understands that.... I am told to my face that I'm lazy and need to be an adult.

The good news is you figured out what the main issue is. Big important step. The best news is that we older adult autistics are the survivors. Many of our peers were institutionalized, tried to deal with our problems with drink and drugs etc

As a late diagnosed autistic (dxed at 52yo), I think that our biggest problem is having lived without fully understanding what was happening around us, and believed, or forced ourselves to believe, to be something else. And this caused CPTSD.
Having a diagnose (official or self-made - I don't see differences) is just like having the instruction manual of our lives. Everything becomes easier to understand. It's like starting a new life, but the burden of the past is still there

Sure would a been a nice thing if our parents or , even ourselves had a manual such as one for Spectrum children.
Considering all the stuff we got fed about ourselves growing up. Then surprise you are older, And the State , I live in
still doesnt want to know about Autism , So in the afterfact, as have gotten older, The therapists , I could have used to talk too. Never manifested here. Unless your underage . And all the therapist , i saw , before dx in late 40s.
After that they Did not even have a clue .But perhaps their focusing on solely the PTSD blinded them? :skull:
