When I was young about 65 years ago, I used the trampoline. In high school, I took a course in gymnastics. It is like jumping on the trampoline. You learn many skills, exciting skills like the trampoline.

Hi Ellie,

Welcome here! I'm very verbal and diagnosed autistic, but .... I'm fascinated by non-verbal or semi-verbal in autism.

The nonverbal autistics I've met at social/autism events were too "low functioning" to communicate with -- not even with AAC.

I've met a few semi-verbals, in that they lacked back-and-forth communication ability, but they were able to read out loud whatever I put in front of them. So they could be quite verbal when reading, but not when conversing.

So I have a question for you. What is it that keeps you from being fully verbal? Is it that you're able to THINK the words, but then when it's time to speak, that part of your brain-to-vocal cords doesn't work?

Or is it an issue of extreme shyness, in that you can't speak much TO other people, but when you're alone, can you fully talk to yourself? This would be selective mutism.

So if you can type your thoughts, then, what is it that makes it difficult for you to transfer those thoughts to speech?

I'm genuinely interested in knowing this straight from another autistic person. Because I rely so heavily on being a big talker, I can't imagine being able to type out thoughts yet not be able to speak them out loud.

Selective mutism isn't about being shy. ^
