He's young. Maybe he'll rule the world one day, and every American will get one thousand dollars on the spot.

Anyway my point is just that I liked him more than the typical selection of windbags.

Yang was like if you crossed Ross Perot with Elon Musk. Innovative yes, but offering every person $1000 is pie in the sky (Of course Perot's idea of a flat tax was just as silly).

"He announces that he (as Hynkel) has had a change of heart,
he makes an impassioned speech for brotherhood and goodwill, encouraging
soldiers to fight for liberty, and unite the people in the name of democracy.

He then addresses a message of hope to Hannah: "Look up, Hannah.
The soul of man has been given wings, and at last he is beginning to fly.

He is flying into the rainbow, into the light of hope, into the future,
the glorious future that belongs to you, to me, and to all of us."

Hannah hears the barber's voice on the radio. She turns toward
the rising sunlight, and says to her fellows:

"Listen.""

We've got the money to do it. It's just not popular with the elites that make the decisions. As are things in general that would benefit the people.

It's just another sign that we don't have a real democracy.

I'm pretty sure they even did give every American about one thousand dollars during the pandemic. I know Yang's proposal was mostly a meme, but it's pretty bizarre that it has happened every decade or so that money is given to citizens to stimulate the economy, but his proposal was considered too outlandish...

And the Democrats stopped it as soon as possible. What gets me is that it's not hard. They give everybody $1k and then they tax it back from the wealthy. That money winds up back in the hands of the billionaires anyways. It's less than half the money that is spent on defense. So, it's not like we can't afford it. Nobody in power questions the spending when it's for iffy purposes.

Most people would blow the $1000 on shoes.

So? That was the whole point of the stimulus checks originally given to people in the first place...

Which would stimulate the economy. The money would get spent, then the people who benefited from the increase in shoe purchases would spend more, leading to the people who benefited from their purchases to spend more...

Yeah but the shoes or big screen tv will be made in China so the stimulus money would be stimulating the Chinese economy.

The stimulus would be split between the retail sector where the products are sold and the manufacturing sector where they're made. It's not like the benefits are only seen where the manufacturing occurs.

hmmm Sony, Hisense and Samsung televisions are made by Asian owned corporation where the labour is in Asia and shoe companies and other luxuries like shirts, trousers and parfume are also manufactured overseas and own by foreign based companies. So the amount going to the retailer is a very small slice of the pie.
