Winter is almost upon us. The temperatures are dropping. Yesterday it rained and mixed with the rain was hail. This morning the temperatures dropped down to 32.4 degrees F ( 0.2 degrees C).
What will this winter bring? We live in southern Indiana. We have plenty of firewood for the wood stove. Perhaps a ten year supply.
But a great pandemic called H5N1 or Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), otherwise know as Bird Flu is in the wind. This virus is spread by birds and as they fly south for the winter, they will bring this plague closer to home. The virus is spreading from birds and has evolved to strike chickens and has killed hundreds of millions of chickens in the past couple years. Now it has evolved and began killing animals. Over 50 different species of animals have been affected. One of the latest variants has struck cows. Even some have struck humans, so the plague is almost upon us. And it is deadly, very deadly. It will strike the most healthy, young men and women at their prime. And it is so fast, so utterly fast, when it strikes.
My firewood is dry and will keep the house warm. The game is afoot.

This will be my first winter living in the Northeast. I hope it delivers! I know that recent years have been mild even up here, but I hope we buck that trend right now!

Yesterday it was 96 degrees here, but not as humid as it is most of the summer so it felt pretty good. Today it's 71 and I'm very unhappy about how cold it is. It doesn't get terribly cold here except for the occasional freeze but I'm really unhappy about the cooler weather coming. I much prefer 96 to 71.

Last night it dropped below freezing. The temperatures fell to 29.7 degrees F (- 1.3 degrees C) this morning. My wife constructed a fire pit this year and we roasted marshmallows in it a few days ago when out grandchildren visited us.
It was a well constructed fire pit with a 11 foot by 11 foot base and 4 layer of bricks to hold the centerpiece.

So should we all just drink the Kool-Aid since a deadly flu pandemic is inevitable this winter and we're going to die anyway? I know that I'm worthless and a burden on society due to having no job, nor children, and no spouse. I don't desire such things but society doesn't care if I do or not. And I'm currently fighting some infection for almost two weeks and although I think I'm recovering I'm still coughing like a 98-year old chronic smoker. And I've never smoked cigarettes in my whole life.

The short answer is NO. The best optimal approach is to understand the threat and then learn the steps to surviving.

That doesn't sound good. If you have difficulty breathing it may be because you have fluids in your lungs. You may need to go see your doctor and have them perform some tests to find the cause. In the meantime you might try using some Vicks VapoRub. It always seemed to help me.
