hemochromatosis

Hello everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with a genetic condition called hemochromatosis, it is a disease that causes iron overload in the body. Has anyone else on here been diagnosed with this condition? And if so how did you treat it?

Not me, but my auntie. She was diagnosed with haemochromatosis a few years ago. She goes to the doctor regularly to "give blood". So it's the opposite of a transfusion.

Do you know what symptoms she was experiencing before the diagnosis? Also how long did it take with the treatment before she started seeing results? I have only donated blood once since my diagnosis and I haven't seen much of a difference. I feel tired all the time, I hope things start to improve soon I'd hate to live the rest of my life like this.

I don't believe my auntie had any symptoms, it was found on a routine blood test. She has fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis so she puts up with a lot of pain. So I don't know if she's had any tangible improvement.

I'm feeling about the same, but I'm hopeful for the future. I have a appointment to give blood soon and I'm also attending a course on chronic illness management. Unfortunately these things take time so I just have to do what my doctor says and go from there.

A family member had it, but after bariatric surgery she has lower to lower normal levels. I tested my self and all good.
