Reincarnation and also the belief in karma is common in magical circles.

I don't believe in reincarnation per se, it seems a little bit egocentric to me, the idea that we are so important, we have to be recycled into a newborn infant every lifetime. It would be nice of course and I am all for it if it is so. Give me a reset, I will do better next time, promise!

I don't think we are that important, I think disposable might be another way of looking at things. Precious and beloved by our Creator, but in our individuality, disposable. So in death, we return to the Creator what was granted to us. Our atoms are formed into something else.

This really makes me skeptical of reincarnation, vs. believing it's just people who wish to feel special.

Well put.

Didn't matter to me on how true or untrue.

If it's not true, then why do I not feel this sense of urgency to get everything out of this life time?
Why do I not want more or less time existing?

If it's true, then how can I finally stop doing this all over again if this lifetime is more or less a consequence of whatever happened in whatever past life that supposedly existed?

I don't fear nonexistentence.
I don't fear continuation of existence and eternity either.

But I feel... This deep, deep boredom and a sense that I shouldn't stay in this life for too long yet I'm stuck here...

Whether that's related to any existing past life or not, that ever present feeling refuses to go away.

Regardless of how I may or may not believe it...
I would wish it doesn't exist in whatever way people could've imagine it to be.

For me to want to do any lifetime all over again meant I have this really bored soul within me, and I'm tired.
Or being so hung up over something I very much likely forget whatever it is over for -- in which is something I do not even want to do regardless if past life exists or not (traumas that only has echoes, no conscious memory of is a huge, huge headache).

For me, at the moment, if reincarnation actually exists, it just means more work for me.
... And I don't want that...

And if it doesn't exists...
... Why am I not excited? Why am I not anticipating something new? Why am I not feel relief that it can be over?

Maybe you just haven't swallowed the propaganda that everybody should work their butts off to achieve their absolute maximum potential.

I'm 60 and I'm so glad that all the BS about 'potential' is well and truly over as far as my life is concerned. It's a long time since anyone expected me to vicariously fulfil their ambitions for them.

Yesterday I saw a comic strip where a little boy is saying to an older man, "Yeah, I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age, either."

I thought it was pretty funny, but I don't believe in reincarnation. I wish. Except that you have no control where, how, and who you will be born to. If you are reborn, you might have a life that's a lot worse than you have now. And if your life is really bad, how do you know your next one will be better? You could reborn as a starving child in a third world country or something like that.

Yeah because if you could come back as any living thing then you could come back as like a barnacle or a slug or anything

I wonder if you're a creature of the land could you come back as a creature of the sea

Something like this...

Death Speech by Erin - Midnight Mass (Netflix)

So what do you think happens when we die, Erin?

Speaking for myself?
Myself. My self.

That's the problem.
That's the whole problem with the whole thing.

That word, "self."

That's not the word. That's not right, that isn't… That isn't.
How did I forget that?

When did I forget that?

The body stops a cell at a time, but the brain keeps firing those neurons.

Little lightning bolts, like fireworks inside, and I thought I'd despair or
feel afraid, but I don't feel any of that.

None of it. Because I'm too busy. I'm too busy in this moment. Remembering. Of course.

I remember that every atom in my body was forged in a star.

This matter, this body is mostly just empty space after all, and solid matter?

It's just energy vibrating very slowly and there is no me. There never was.

The electrons of my body mingle and dance with the electrons of the ground
below me and the air I'm no longer breathing.

And I remember there is no point where any of that ends and I begin.

I remember I am energy. Not memory. Not self.

My name, my personality, my choices, all came after me.

I was before them and I will be after, and everything else is pictures, picked up along the way.
Fleeting little dreamlets printed on the tissue of my dying brain.

And I am the lightning that jumps between. I am the energy firing the neurons, and I'm returning.
Just by remembering, I'm returning home.

And it's like a drop of water falling back into the ocean, of which it's always been a part.

All things… a part.
All of us… a part.

You, me and my little girl, and my mother and my father, everyone who's ever
been, every plant, every animal, every atom, every star, every galaxy, all of it.

More galaxies in the universe than grains of sand on the beach.

And that's what we're talking about when we say "God."

The one. The cosmos and its infinite dreams. We are the cosmos dreaming of itself.

It's simply a dream that I think is my life, every time.
But I'll forget this. I always do. I always forget my dreams.

But now, in this split-second, in the moment I remember, the instant I
remember, I comprehend everything at once.

There is no time. There is no death. Life is a dream.

It's a wish.

Made again and again and again and again and again and again and on into eternity.

And I am all of it.

I am everything. I am all.

I am that I am.

I'm agnostic-favoring (it seems like a realistic enough possibility to be concerned with).

The Ian Stevenson stuff is interesting as well as a lot of the follow ups.

IMHO reincarnation is cosmic horror - given what this universe is, given how Darwinian processes run everything in a really invasive way, there's a lot that's quite unpleasant long range, and then I've heard people make suggestions that we might incarnate tens of thousands of times... what exactly does one need to return that many times to 'learn'? This is where I don't really trust the religious models even if it's real. John Cleese was chatting with the U of V doctors about some of the cases and how it seems like if someone picks up a severe injury it ends up being a deformity the next time around - that's not God, more like a kind of arcane biology which is just as morally arbitrary. It might still be, from the materialist box, 'supernatural' but I it's functioned too much as a boo word and I worry that it stops us from solving some of the puzzles we have such as sorting out the relationship of consciousness to the brain or whether AI can be conscious (substrate independence).

Long-cycle reincarnation, especially with no object lessons, seems like a pointless tedious hell. If we're over a barrel we're over a barrel and that's sick. You'd like to think there's a way to grapple or negotiate with that or... back to cosmic horror.

Lol. Watch were something like yogurt or yeast in a brewing / other industrial process or like the bees on their honey farm. It would make way more practical sense than saying that we're here to achieve the alchemical magnum opus.

Here I am, hello.
In all of the visions I have seen, as far as I can tell, I was a mundane nobody.

I did have one vision of war, and some of the clues indicated that I -could- have been somebody famous in WWI (Patton, who coincidentally was also a believer), but I am HIGHLY skeptical. He's talked about all of his previous lives where he was always this fierce and proud warrior...and I'm just some mundane nobody who's not even a great warrior in the video games.
I find it much more likely that I was a fighter pilot who just happened to share some similarities with Patton, but I doubt I will ever find out in this lifetime. There were a LOT of people involved in that war, I could have been anybody.

But, I mean, we don't really KNOW how reincarnation works...there are some who believe that time is a cycle and we just keep reincarnating until we've been EVERYONE...
I don't know =) I don't believe that myself, but I can see how some might.
