Hello,

Does anyone have advice for someone who has been experiencing insomnia for the better part of a year? This has been the longest period of time where I have struggled to fall asleep at a normal hour. I am really getting tired of this (pardon the pun).

Melatonin

Camomile tea

I-Theanine

Sleeping pills

I've had the best luck with Sleeping meds in recent history. I am going to get my prescription refilled tomorrow.

As a short-term solution I find diphenhydramine can help, but it's not a good idea to rely on it long-term.

I've never had much luck with melatonin, personally.

Magnesium can be calming, but doesn't really put me to sleep.

5-HTP and valerian might be helpful.

That said, nothing really resolves my insomnia.

Same.

I use all those things in addition to prescription sedatives, yet here I am.

Melatonin doesn’t work for me on its own but it does help to reset my clock a bit so I’m susceptible to sleep at the right times, when I take the other stuff.

*Editor’s note: Excuse the run-on sentence. I do them when I’m tired .

Autism isn't my superpower, being unable to sleep despite being loaded to the gills with practically every sedative and drowsiness inducing substance known to man is.

Z class sleepers (zolpidem, zopiclone, zaleplon) I find helpful to get to sleep, but not to maintain it. Most benzodiazepines will keep me asleep if I can get there first. I rarely use either, preferring to get stoned instead.

I have various problems sleeping sometimes. I think various meds I'm on help me sleep but I'm not on them for sleep. My doc had me quit taking Propranolol a couple months ago which is a blood-pressure med that's sometimes used for anxiety. Doc wanted me to quit taking it because I started having more frequent headaches & my blood-pressure is usually kinda low when I'm tested. Doc thinks the headaches are migraines which I did used to get a bit before I started Propranolol & is the reason why I started taking it but I believe my recent headaches are sinus headaches due to bad allergies & sinus issues. Doc wanted me to quit taking Propranolol before trying something else but he hasn't prescribed me anything else yet. I've been having a harder time sleeping since I quit taking it. I go to bed later than I should due to not feeling like I could sleep but I end up falling asleep on the sofa more. I sleep for shorter amounts of time, I toss & turn in my sleep more, & I started making noises in my sleep. Me & my girlfreind have been dealing with various life stress for a long time now that has been gradually getting worse & stressing about about the election & our benefits not keeping up with our inflation so perhaps that's some of my problem instead of just stopping the med. I'd like to try Clonidine which is another blood-pressure med that's sometimes used for anxiety but it's also used for ADHD.

I had trouble sleeping due to anxiety issues as well as night sweats. I think melatonin helped get me to sleep but made the night sweats worse.

What may help is to find ways of reducing the anxiety. Maybe tuning out of the news if that causes anxiety.

Doing hobbies that keep the mind occupied.
