Except this vision was a fantasy.
1. Most families were *not* like those on the classic sitcoms of the time. The Cleavers, Ricardos, et al, were fictional.
2. All the society ills we have now existed then.
3. The 50s were, in fact, a time of great change. The Civil Rights Movement was in full swing. The Beat Generation, and people like Allan Ginsburg, pushed the envelope.
